Traveling Maps
From Necowiki
I love GPS. Its so conveneient and handy to have. Especialy when I go somewhere I haven't been before. The only problem is sometimes its hard to find the maps needed for the GPS to be of any use. The GPS unit I use most often is the Garmin iQuest.
In the absence of actualy Garmin format vector maps, it is sometimes necesary to make bitmap maps (for use with OziExplorer). For this, Google Maps is very nice. Using JShape we can easily get large maps (I got 5000x5000px maps, bigger seems to be difficult for the screen capture soft) from google. Then using a screen capture program (like Hypersnap DX we capture the window (with Capture Extended Window) and geo-locate the map in OziExplorer (again using JShape to find the Lat/Long of landmarks on the map).
Alternatively if we have an Internet connection it is juse easier to use Google Earth (Pro version has GPS connction elements)
