Sony PRS505
From Necowiki
This page is dedicated to the Sony PRS505 Digital Reader.
In the next little while I plan to post here some information about my experiences with the reader, resources I have found for it, software, some personal tutorial notes, places to find content etc...

Formats
The most common format for e-books though is probably PDF; and although it will work with PDFs directly, most PDFs are design for 8.5x11" paper - and on the reader look too small to read. There are a few ways to get PDFs onto the reader and make them more usable.
pdflrf

I found this works well for converting PDFs with large fonts, or comics to LRF format. It makes the text a bit darker then the original PDF so it provides more contrast which results in easier to read documents. The conversion to comics works particularly well (from a comic converted from a series of images to a PDF)
For comics I change to Scale to "Fit to page" and Profile to "comic-portrait"
Another good feature is using this softwares Trim% function to trim margins from a PDF, making for larger text. I usually use this if the original book is nicely formated. The Preview button provides a visual way to trim the page (or just odd or even or even different way).
The software can convert multicolumn text into one column - though I haven't used it in that way yet. Read the forum page (while its there) to find out all the details... Really usefully software.
Book Designer
Location: Image:Filename Book Designer is originaly a russian software, but the executable can run in english fine. You'll also need the update to get Sony support into it. It is as close to a word processor as I have seen for the 505. IAlthough I'm using it for the Sony device here, it can export (and import) a wide variety of e-book formats.
