Flight Simulator

With the new edition of Microsofts Flight Simulator (version 10 now, or X) there is a new world to play in. This page will keep track of the interesting stuff I learn while exploring the FSX world

Extensions and additions

  • FSEconnomy adds a new depth to flight simulator. Even though the original sim now has missions (which can give you a "reason" to fly if just flying isn't enough), I wen't through most of the missions quickly. FSE adds more "reason" by letting you earn virtual money for doing assignments all around the world. Its a great way to discover new areas while seeing a result aside from the FSX Logbook. Its like an MMPORPG but free.

Resources

  • FlightSim.com - the original flight simulation reference site, tons of content, reviews and good discussion boards

Navigation

  • FAA free products are now available for the US. For now the page has links to PDF's of the airport charts for the US (obviously). Hopefully someday they'll have VFR sectional charts as well
  • SkyVector offers another set of free charts (again only for the US). They have the sectional charts that can be browsed line. No way to download them unfortunately. The charts have links to airports and navaids details too.
